Mathews-Dickey Lady Cardinals RBI Softball Team Are Champions of the World

The Mathews-Dickey Lady Cardinals softball team beat Nobu Yamauchi of Hawaii this morning in Cincinnati to advance to the Reviving Baseball in the Inner-City (RBI) World Series Finals. St. Louis takes on Atlanta, the rival whom they tied 5-5 in round one, at 8:30 a.m. CT, Friday, Aug. 11 at P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy.
St. Louis — The Mathews-Dickey Lady Cardinals softball team are champions of the world. They defeated Atlanta 2-1 in extra innings this morning in the Reviving Baseball in the Inner-City (RBI) World Series at P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy. The team will be honored on-the-filed at Busch Stadium prior to the St. Louis Cardinals 1:15 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13 game vs. the Braves.
After winning the Central Region title six out of the last seven years, this represents Lady Cardinals’ first appearance in the RBI World Series championship game and first title in the 25 years of the programs’ existence.

The Reviving Baseball in the Inner-City (RBI) Program is operated by the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club through Cardinals Care, the official non-profit arm of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mathews-Dickey and the St. Louis Cardinals have enjoyed a long-time relationship, with team management and players providing skill development clinics, health and reading enrichment activities and funding.
The Lady Cardinals’ victory represents continuing momentum for RBI. Just last August, the St. Louis Cardinals matched the grant donated by the Baseball Tomorrow Fund to help build an Adam Wainwright Field at the Mathews-Dickey at Bob Russell Park in North St. Louis County.Last month, DJ Stewart from the Mathews-Dickey Boys RBI team was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies.
