Sheer Elegance Celebrated its 27th Year With ‘Fashiontron’
The Sheer Elegance No.27 Fashion Show transformed the Chase Park Plaza into a giant arcade of style as Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club presented the video-game flavored “Fashiontron” fund-raising production on Dec. 12. Forty young women had a special moment in the spotlight and total pledges were close to $150,000 to support the organization.
The show featured exciting virtual reality based entertainment including America’s & Britain’s Got Talent featured 3D video-map dance outfit Freelusion, “Project Runway” alumni designers, celebrity escorts like Actress Anna Maria Horsford, international models like Jennie Runk and 20 outstanding Girls’ Honorees recognized for academics, community service and citizenship.
The stylish affair featured the very best in the industry, including Carlos Santana and Fergie brand shoes by Caleres footwear, “Project Runway” alumni Michael Drummond, Laura Kathleen, AJ Thouvenot, Shan Keith, Qristyl Frazier along with men’s wear designer Paulie Gibson, teen designer Olivia Rae Davis and Savvi Formalwear. St. Louis Post-Dispatch Fashion Editor Debra Bass and KMOX “Total Information” Co-Host Debbie Monterrey presided over the festivities, and KTVI Fox 2’s Bonita Cornute announced a bevy of door prizes including a diamond ring valued at $1,500 from Vincent’s Jewelers! The proceedings also marked one of the first official public engagements by newly appointed CEO Wendell Covington, Jr.
The crowd was captivated by the exciting roster of entertainers including the Ghost Lights a capella group from Washington University in St. Louis, Best Talent Center and Freelusion.
During the American Family | Centene | Home State Health Plan Digital Reception, awards were presented to Britt Stender of American Family, Mary Hill of FOX 2 and Roz Reese of the St. Louis Regional Chamber.
Vanessa Keith, a Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale officer, chaired this year’s event along with Edward Jones HR Director Irasa Downing as co-chair and The Wilkinson Group President Donna Wilkinson as honorary chair.

Sheer Elegance was all about girl power. That day 20 high-school aged young women were recognized for their academic, extra-curricular and community service achievements as well as 20 elementary-to-middle school girls taking part in a special thematic presentation. The honorees were:

Prior to the show the teen honorees received eight weeks of personal development and choreography training leading up to their finale dance, along with enjoying a space mission at the Challenger Learning Center and creating their own video game with Pixel Press. They were escorted down the runway by community leaders, ranging from the mayor to the heads of cultural institutions, media personalities and CEOs. The Digital Major sponsors included Centene/Home State, Edward Jones and The Catherine Manley Gaylord Foundation. Supporters at the Digital Corporate level included American Family Insurance, Ameren Missouri, Clayco Inc., Engelhardt Family Foundation, Dowd Bennett LLP, John & Alison Nichols Ferring, The Monsanto Fund, Nestle’ Purina PetCare Co. and Tri-Rinse, Inc.
